About Edward Howell, Designer

Edward Howell is a longtime veteran of digital creation, from the early days of desktop publishing, to motion graphics, 3D characters, and virtual environments. He is also a former professor of computer graphics including Photoshop and Illustrator, in both online and live classrooms at Valencia College, Full Sail University, and Seminole State College of Florida for over a decade.

Edward was a web developer/multimedia designer on the Valencia College instructional technology team during that period of time. In this role, he was responsible for creating and maintaining websites, multimedia content, and applications for Valencia’s faculty. He also supported Valencia’s federal Title III and Title V grants with training, 3D animations, motion graphics, and websites.  At that time, Valencia was still offering telecourses over its ITFS television channels and Edward helped with that development as well.  He also taught classes for faculty, as part of the faculty development program in web page authoring and multimedia development (HTML, PowerPoint, Flash, etc.).
From 2007 to 2017, he was a noted content creator in the Multi-User Virtual Environment (MUVE) of Second Life.  Edward created Second Life avatars for such noted persons as French film director and multimedia artist Chris Marker (http://chrismarker.org/2010/04/ouvroir-the-movie/), and Dr. Maurice Slevin at the London Oncology Clinic, as well as 30 Deans at Majmaah University. He also designed and programmed the entire virtual campus for Valencia College in Second Life. In 2015, he completed building the virtual campus for Majmaah University in Saudi Arabia, in Second Life, and Sage Park, an ESL world on the Kitely grid.

In 2016, his original avatar design was selected to be an onscreen virtual world asset in the Steven Spielberg film, "Ready Player One."
Since 2017, Edward has developed courses and taught Interactive Media Entertainment and Entertainment Business Technology at The Los Angeles Film School.
